American newly-weds planning honeymoon marathon run to help UK cats

n American couple are planning to spend their honeymoon raising money for Cats Protection by running the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

Matt Browning, 39, and Julie Schultz, 31, are tying the knot in their home city of Seattle, in Washington, in October before flying in to the UK for a two-and-a-half-week holiday.

But before embarking of a tour of England and Scotland, the newly-weds will kick-start their honeymoon by taking part in the 13.1 mile route through Central London.

The couple are hoping to raise over £750 for Cats Protection, the UK’s largest cat charity which helps around 200,000 cats and kittens every year through a network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 32 centres.

Matt and Julie, whose own cats are ten-year-old sisters Columbia and Carmen, said they were looking forward to being able to help the charity.

Matt said: “We had heard about the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon and, as avid runners, we thought that this would be a wonderful event for us to participate in.

“Julie and I are both animal lovers and have two cats. We love that Cats Protection finds good homes for cats and never puts healthy cats to sleep, so we were thrilled to get the opportunity to run for the charity.”

Cats Protection’s Fundraising Events Manager Rebecca Worth said: “People choose to take part in fundraising activities for Cats Protection for many reasons – maybe a personal challenge, to do something as part of a team or as an incentive to get fit. But what unites all of the people who raise money for us is a love of cats, as every penny they raise will help cats in need.

“We’re really grateful to Matt and Julie for all their hard work with fundraising and training. Not many couples would choose to take part in such a huge challenge on their honeymoon, and we hope it will be a memorable and fulfilling start to their married life.”

Anyone can apply to take part in fundraising events to raise money for Cats Protection. There are all sorts of activities to choose from, including running, cycling, trekking, swimming and skydive challenges.
